This is how we spent our Pi Day. Hope you enjoy.
With such a large family Pi is hardly enough to go around. If you find yourself in the same predicament might we suggest Tau? If you don’t know about tau you can read more about its case to be the circle constant over at TauDay.com. If you missed today’s 3.1415926 celebration perhaps you can celebrate tau’s big day on June 28, 2031.
Grandmom’s Gluten Free Apple Tau
We took the opportunity to read a picture book from one of our favorite series – the Sir Cumference books by Cindy Neuschwander. Today we read Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi. When we were done we went around the house measuring the diameter and circumference of bowls and trash cans and tables and calculating pi with each one.
Do you know the Sir Cumference books? We are at grandmom’s house today. I visited the local library to check out Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi. We have grandmom’s tape measure and are going to try our hand at finding 3 and 1/7 around the house. This year Pi Day is special. It is 2015 thus 3.1415 but tonight at 9:26 we will celebrate 3.1415926.
We also have a Vine account that we have been playing around with. A couple of the boys are learning to make stop motion videos and do simple video editing. We helped them put this silly vine together:
Last year we celebrated by learning about Fermat’s Last Theorem.
